We have designed a publishing formula to get new writers published while teaching
some of the skill sets needed to get there. This co-op approach will
allow editors, illustrators and marketers to join the fun, get their
name out there, and gain experience as well.

This is a paying market following the formula below:

Publisher - will break even. Once costs are paid, the rest of the income
will be distributed as below:

Authors, editors, illustrators, and marketers will be paid in the
relation to effort put in. Points System Example:

Authors = 10:
Editors = 10:
Illustrators (Cover, chapter icons, inside cover, promo) = 4:
Marketers = 20:
Total equal payouts 44

Sample total sales, 500 books at 20 dollars a book = 10,000 dollars
Cost to publish, 1,000 dollars
Net profit 9,000 dollars

Payout increments - 9,000 divided by 44 payouts = 204.54 per unit

Examples:

Author 1 also edits three stories and markets the book: percentage of
net income
5 X 204.54 = 1022.70

Author 2 has two stories accepted, and edits four stories and markets
the book: percentage of income 7 X 204.54 = 1431.78

Illustrator 1 illustrates one book, edits three books and markets the
book: percentage of income 5 X 204.54 = 1022.70

Benefits:
- New Authors with good work get published
- Editors get trained and practiced while getting paid
- Illustrators get a chance to be included
- Everyone learns how to market a book
- Many markets get covered, pushing up book sales and publicity.
As promised, here is the call for submissions for the first Anthology from Cowboy Logic Press.

1) I want exactly 500 words on the following theme:
"A funny thing happened on the way to the rodeo"

2) Once I have 10 or 12 stories in this format, we will switch to "A funny thing happened on the way to the..." Where I will switch in a new value.

The idea behind this book is to provide some quick grins from stories sitting handy on the night stand or at the airport.

Hey Everyone!

I love this format - idea - challenge.

If I can be accepted for publication with my Rodeo Funny you can be accepted.  I'm writing more 500 flash stories.

What I do is roll out the story as I would write a short story.  It always winds up being 400-500 words over the 500.  It is now time to begin whittling the weeds from the fine lawn underneath.  The more you whittle, the more you see the brilliant green.  Keep whittling, jiggle it around, use your thesaurus' and tweak it a bit here and there... you will see!  It's wonderful to challenge yourself, and I am the stiffest competitor I have!  I have actually taken a 2K-word story and whittled it down and am still working on it.

When I write the 66-word stories (I've had three accepted for publication) I always, but always, have way over 150 words.  Ohhh, sometimes I love the story SO much I save it in the original longer version.  Then I begin chipping away at the words... more, more.  I can nearly hear them ker-plunking off the page.  It is a toughie, then again, it shows your mettle and your tenacity as a writer to chip away at the words to make a real tight story.

I've read some cool short flashes.  If they are yours, whooha!  Congratulations!

Hit the trail writers!

Peace on!
